Botox and Dysport are both medications called neuromodulators. They work by reducing muscle activity that lead to wrinkling or furrowing. Dysport and Botox are two different brands but work very similarly. Dysport kicks in quicker. Based on patient goals and facial assessment, your injector will make a recommendation of which to utilize.
Both Botox and Dysport take up to 14 days to be fully kicked in. You will likely notice results within the first week, but the treatment will not take full effect for two weeks. If it is your first time receiving neuromodulator injections at our office, you will come back for a follow up visit two weeks after your initial treatment. The purpose of this is for the patient and injector to assess results. Occasionally, minor adjustments may be necessary at the follow up appointment, but this is not always the case.
Results from botox and Dysport are not permanent. Results last about 3-4 months. In order to maintain results, re-injection is suggested routinely every 3-4 months for as long as the patient desires. Without maintenance appointments, the Botox and Dysport wear off and the muscles regain their normal activity.
Your first appointment will take about 30 minutes. If it is your first time, please arrive five minutes early to fill out consents and medical history forms.
There is no downtime with Botox/Dysport injections. It is possible to get a small bruise but unlikely. You can return to your normal activities immediately.
The number of units of Botox or Dysport needed will depend on the patient’s goals, and the strength of the muscles being treated. Your injector will calculate dosage dependent on assessment at your consultation.
