PRF

Young Female Getting Platelet Rich Fibrin Injection on | Gig Harbor Aesthetics in Gig Harbor, WA

The under eye or “tear trough” is one of the first areas to show signs of aging. The lower eyelid skin is an area of thin tissue, allowing for subdermal features to be accentuated. Due to the thin tissue and its involvement with underlying muscle, age related changes frequently appear earlier than other areas of the face & body. Collagen and elastin loss due to the aging process leads to skin laxity, discoloration, volume loss, and development of fine wrinkles around the eyes. Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a regenerative treatment for the under eye skin using growth factors from your own blood. When injected under the eye, PRF is a natural way to improve skin texture, tightness, pigmentation and create an overall more youthful appearance.

A PRF treatment begins with a blood draw, no different than one you would have at a lab. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate out the PRF. The layer of blood that is used is rich in platelets, white blood cells and stem cells. The platelets release growth factors which stimulate the body to produce collagen, elastin and new skin cells. The blood collection tubes do not contain any additives, meaning the PRF that is used for injection is 100% your body’s own blood cells.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH UNDER EYE PRF

Before Treatment

Prior to treatment, you will have a consultation to determine if PRF is the right option for your aesthetic goals. The treatment plan, expectations and aftercare will be discussed. If PRF is right for you, you can begin treatment immediately following consultation. To prepare for your appointment please arrive well hydrated to ensure a successful blood draw. To reduce risk for bruising, please avoid the use of medications containing ibuprofen or aspirin for 2 weeks before your appointment. Do not stop taking any medication that is prescribed by your healthcare provider.

After Treatment

After Treatment, patients can expect to have under eye swelling for 2-5 days. Bruising is possible but unlikely. You will notice results of your treatment over the course of the following 4-8 weeks. Since this treatment is regenerative using your body’s own healing mechanisms, results are gradual and take several weeks to develop. The number of treatments required for optimal results will depend on the patient’s age and aesthetic goals. Most patients require a series of 3 or more sessions 4-6 weeks apart.
